Summer and Allan
This has to be one of my favourite weddings of the season – the bride from the United Arab Emirates, her groom proudly South African…
It all started in November 2008 when Summer called from Dubai looking for a possible venue in the Knysna area. Eventually, after having looked everywhere from Cape Town and Mozambique to Durban and back to Knysna we ended up in Hermanus. And what a splendid day it was, starting at Benguela Cove and ending in style at the Arabella Hotel and Spa.
Summer, clad in a spectacular gown designed in Rajasthan, India by Amanda Wakeley, entered the ceremony area on the lawn at Benguela Cove to the stirring sounds of From this Moment by Shania Twain, performed live by Rochelle for this auspicious occasion; after vows were said rose petal and mini paper jet plane confetti – the latter inspired by Allan’s career in aviation – rained down on the newly wedded couple.
Guests departed for the Arabella where waitrons lined the staircase, all set to serve sparkling wine; canapés followed and the festivities began. Once seated a trio of salmon was served with sorbet to follow and an entire hour and a half of speeches ensued soon after…
Dinner kicked off with a choice between grilled loin of Karoo lamb in a black olive and fine herb crust set on sautéed Kenya beans and lemon mash with a roasted garlic jus, or an almond crusted fillet of line fish on lyonnaise potatoes with zucchini fritters served with a citrus beurre blanc. The wedding cake, a decadent chocolate with choc fudge filling, was served much later in the evening as dessert.
Then the dance floor was opened and everybody danced their way happily and enthusiastically into the early hours.
“Thanks, Summer, for making me part of this spectacular event, it was a real pleasure planning your special day with you. I had a fabulous time and would like to wish you all the happiness and the very best life has to offer in the years to come.”
And Summer’s final thank you was gratifying indeed: “Marius, this is so beautiful, just exactly what I wanted!”
