Mia and Oliver
About the Bride
I am currently 29. I live I Midrand(moving Durban on Tuesday) and I am singer. I got married because I finally understood what my dad had been telling me for years…”When you know you know”. And with Oliver I just knew and we couldn’t wait to get married to start our lives together.
About the Groom
I am 34 and the area manager for Nissan Diesel SA covering KZN. I lived in Fourways but am moving to Durban next week. I got married because I fell in love with the woman I was seeing…
How did you meet?
We met through Oliver’s stepmom who was the script writer for one of my shows.
How long were you together before the wedding proposal?
7 weeks!!!
Tell us about the proposal
Oliver took me up a mountain in Hartebeespoort, got his friends to light 240 candles at the bottom of the mountain that read “Mia Marry Me”. Each letter as big as a car…was very romantic!!!
How far in advance did you choose to have your wedding after the proposal? And, why?
Oliver proposed on the Friday night. We chose the venue the next day. We went to 4 venues and chose Avianto because my family (Mia) is Italian and Avianto is beautiful!
How did you go about the wedding planning process? Did you do it yourself? How long was the planning process? How did you find it?
We had 5 months to plan the wedding. My mom and I did everything and Lauren from Avianto was also a big help.
Did you have a hen party / kitchen tea / stag night / bachelor / bachelorette party? If so, what did you do and what did you enjoy most about it?
We both had a Hens night and Bachelors night….The best part was that we both met up at the end of the night at Movida and enjoyed the rest of the bachelors and bachelorettes together.
Wedding Details
Shoo...it’s a long story. I will say that it was a magical day, but one of the parts that stands out for me was that we entered the reception hall after our photo’s and went straight into our first dance which was really cool. It was an unforgettable day but flew by like someone had their finger on the fast forward button. It was THE fastest day of our lives! But the best day too.
Tips and / or advice for future bridal couples?
Avoid planning for too many months. If you have a year to plan, book your venue and get your dress. The rest can wait for the 4-5 months leading up to the wedding, otherwise you tend to overspend because once you planned things closer to the time you tend to want to add more and more and it can get very expensive. LESS IS MORE and breathe every moment in.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?
My dad giving me away. My mom looked beautiful and I loved our bubble bath in the room after everyone had left…it was all in all a lovely day.
Did you go on honeymoon? If so, where? And, why there?
We went to Paradise Island in the Seychelles. It was beautiful and was a well needed rest after all the planning and stressing. Seychelles was where my parents went for their honeymoon and it was so lovely we will be going back again soon.
