How did you meet?
Through two of our best friends, who was also part of our wedding party.
How long were you together before the wedding proposal?
2.5 years, but we've known each other since Standard 9 (Grade 11)
About the Proposal
It was on my birthday. Gerrit took me to Dullstroom for the weekend, and on the Friday night after cooking me my favourite dinner, prawns, he went down on his knees and proposed.
How far in advance did you choose to have your wedding after the proposal? And, why?
1.5 years. Because we had a destination weekend wedding, and my father & brother had to come in from the USA.
How did you go about the wedding planning process? Did you do it yourself? How long was the planning process? How did you find it?
No, thankfully I had my Wedding Planner, Michelle du Plessis there. Probably started around April 2008, the Monday after the proposal the venue was already booked. The rest of the planning followed round about August/September 2008. Loved being involved in planning my wedding. But would never be able to do it for a living, too stressful!
Did you have a hen party / kitchen tea / stag night / bachelor / bachelorette party? If so, what did you do and what did you enjoy most about it?
I had the best Kitchen tea/bachelorette party ever! My family and friends surprised me at a day spa the morning. They dressed me up in this little pink dress, with black fishnet stockings. Later the afternoon the younger crowd joined in and we were taken to another location, baking ginger bread men (body parts of my husband to be), and mixing cocktails. The evening finished off on a very high note with pole dancing lessons.
About the Wedding
I had my fairytale wedding, down to every little detail. It was the best day of my life! Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Tips and / or advice for future bridal couples?
Enjoy every moment, even when she turns into bridezilla, it all happens so fast! And before you know the day has passed. So cherish every single little detail.
What was the most memorable part of your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle and seeing my grooms face for the first time.
Did you go on honeymoon? If so, where? And, why there?
Kapama Private Game Reserve, Hoedspruit, Limpopo. We are true South African's, and wanted a honeymoon in our great Country. We love the bush, and had a wonderful time.
