My wedding proposal was quite interesting… it really feels like my fiancé and I can’t get things the easy way. He asked my dad if he could marry me while I was not there. The first thing that came out of my dad’s mouth was “Are you crazy?!!” But after my dad gave him a long speech my dad said “OK”. Craig, my fiancé, had such a nice evening planned. We would go to Carnival City, eat at Lotta Foods Buffet and there he would pop the question. Well, everything didn’t really go according to plan. We started our journey a bit too late and if that was not bad enough, we missed the turn off and drove almost to Durban to get there! On our way we also hit some retread and lost our vender. After another wrong turn we finally made it to Carnival City.
It was really late when we got there after our journey on the road. But the place looked amazing. Neither of us have ever been there. Unfortunately the Lotta Foods Buffet was not open anymore, but at least Ocean Basket was. We had a nice meal and the service was great. Craig then leaned over and asked in a joking manner if I will become his wife.
I can’t explain how I felt; I was looking forward to this moment forever, but at that moment my heart was raising, it felt like all the spotlight was on me and I panicked. I just first needed some time to soak everything in, so I ignored what he said and almost wanted to run a way (almost like the Runaway Bride!)
We decided to gamble a bit, but had no luck. Now I had a plan of my own… I wanted us to play some ten pin bowling. I would then put my arms around his neck and say “Yes I will marry you!!” I could picture it in my head and was so excited. But once again things don’t always go as you plan. We got to the Ten Pin Bowling cashier to pay and Craig realised his wallet was gone; I went into a panic because I thought my ring was in the wallet – luckily it was not. After a long evening of trying to track down the wallet we finally gave up and went home.
That morning after the tiredness was gone, I took my arm around his neck and told him what I wanted to tell him last night - that I will be the happiest women on earth if I were to marry him. He went on his knees and proposed to me. I was so happy and it felt so unreal when he put the ring on my finger. I loved him more then ever and I know he felt the same.
We might not have had a fairytale proposal, but if we could make it through such a night we can make it through everything!!!!
