The recent oil spill off the Gulf of Mexico has caused a global outcry and desperate situations for the residents being affected, not least of all the marine life. However, the spill is also hampering the dream weddings of brides wanting to have their ceremony, reception or wedding photographs taken on the beach. As fewer couples are willing to have their wedding celebrations along the coastal strip that was once known for its picturesque backdrops, achieving the status of a wedding destination, the surrounding business loses millions of dollars. By couples’ not bringing their weddings to the area, the wedding supplier industry also suffers a major knock.
Many a time, the brides and grooms are not sure of what the conditions will be like until they arrive, and one bride tells of standing on sticky tar balls and having the Hazmat team included in some of her professional photographs!
Such environmental disasters have devastating effects on a host of factors, including human lives, animal- and plant species, businesses and the economy. While weddings may not be at the top of the priority list for the environmentalists, it demonstrates how a situation completely out of the control of the panicked wedding planner or bride-to-be can change everything. The most important part of this day needs to be the love and union that you are celebrating; such love that can withstand the sticky tar balls of life.
