Julia and Bobby are both graphic designers in Tucson, Arizona (United States), which should have been a clear hint that their wedding invitations would be something special. However, no one could have imagined just how cool invites could get until they received their surprise Viewmaster in the mail. This was kept a complete secret from all friends and family, making their invitations even more fun and intriguing. This was done because the couple knew that many of their friends and family members would not be able to attend the wedding, and wanted them to have a very special keepsake from the event, whether they were there or not.
Once guests opened their box and discovered their Viewmaster, they could hardly wait to see what this mysterious package held. All of the images were 3-D, captured by putting two digital cameras together and then sent to a studio to be put onto a Viewmaster reel. The invitation wording was spelt out using fridge magnets, while aliens, superheroes, Lego men and ornamental farmyard animals set a scene that has to be seen to be appreciated. The RSVP cards were printed with a cowboy, which guests were asked to decorate before returning. Some of these cards were so inventive and creative that they were later included in the décor of the wedding.
While such “offbeat” ideas may not be everybody’s choice for their wedding day, it certainly sparks the imagination and encourages couples to remember that their wedding day is about them and should reflect their unique identity. This way, it is far more meaningful to the couple and is bound to be more memorable for the guests.
