Overview
Anyone who has seen it will tell you a flock of brightly lit lanterns soaring into the night sky is nothing less than breathtaking. A visually stunning sight to savour, these floating candles will add a unique beauty to your wedding celebrations.
Steeped in mythology, the ascent of the sky lanterns is an incredibly symbolic event, dating back to when people in ancient China would write prayers and wishes on their lanterns and offer them up to the heavens. Today people gather together to light lanterns at gatherings around the world, particularly at weddings. Wishing for prosperity and happiness the lanterns paint the night sky with a galaxy of bright light carrying hundreds of wishes as far as the eye can see.
The alternative to noisy and sometimes hazardous fireworks, sky lanterns offer you an environmentally friendly and tranquil way to celebrate special occasions. They create a beautiful ambience for all the family and your four legged friends won’t be frightened by them at all as they are totally “loud bang” free. Available for you to order now.
The lanterns stand more than 90cm tall and take approximately 45 – 60 seconds to fill with hot air before they are ready to be released into the night time sky.
You will feel the sky lantern starting to tug and pull upwards when it is ready to be released. The lantern will rise up to about 500m in the sky and will take between 2- 5 minutes before the flame dies out and the lantern gently floats to the ground.
Also known as Khoom Fay (Sky Lanterns), these lanterns have been used in Chinese and Thai celebrations for thousands of years. Traditionally, lighting a Sky Lantern would take away your troubles and the higher the Sky Lantern went, the greater your prosperity for the future!
Nowadays Sky Lanterns are currently taking the European market by storm!
From weddings to corporate events, they are being launched at all of the top notch weddings and celebrations and an article was recently written in the UK Wedding Magazine – as a super cool (and different) way to celebrate your wedding.
From weddings to bar mitzvahs, from diwali to lobola celebrations, sending up a display of sky lanterns will leave your guests amazed as they illuminate the night-time sky.
Sky Lantern Release and Safety Guidelines
A major benefit of releasing your own sky lanterns, rather than lighting fireworks, is that they are far safer and made of new bio-degradeable paper.
To ensure safe release:
- Sky lanterns should only be released under low wind conditions.
- Do NOT release sky lanterns in a wind stronger than 8kms/hour
- Check the wind direction prior to releasing the sky lanterns to ensure that there are no obstacles in the flight path.
- The flight path of the sky lanterns must avoid buildings, overhead cables and trees.
- Do not release any sky lanterns within a 10km radius of an airport or landing strip
- Do not release sky lanterns near to dry crops or thatch roofed properties
- Carefully unpack the sky lanterns away from the source of ignition.
- Prior to use, all sky lanterns should be kept in a dry, secure area away from children. Ensure that all young children are kept under supervision and away from the source of ignition during the release.
- Always ensure that any naked flames are supervised and never left unattended.
- Make sure you have water and / or fire extinguishers at hand.
- Never light the sky lanterns whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Never smoke whilst handling the lanterns.
