Overview
Taking inspiration from the beautiful city of Cape Town and the world’s most stylish fashion trends, Shelley Robertson of the Shelley and Harry Jewellery Collection, creates pieces that are authentic, breath-taking and fashionably fun.
“Jewellery is not for sitting in your drawer or safe, it’s bought to be worn, shown-off and enjoyed,” says Shelley Robertson, the founder and designer at the Shelley & Harry Collection, where she creates feminine, fashionable and unique jewellery pieces in Wynberg Chelsea, Cape Town.
Shelley specifically selects traditional precious metals and stones that embrace an appreciation of Cape Town’s indigenous flora. The inspiration is in the detail with an emphasis on colour and texture. The azure blue of the Cape’s sea and sunny skies; the rugged African landscape and delicate indigenous flora are just some of the inspirations for designs. All pieces are unique, original and genuine.
In her latest Goddess collection, Shelley uses exquisite gemstones such as citrines, amethyst, peridot, topaz, aquamarine and moonstones set in either sterling silver or gilded silver. The sultry summer collection is bolder and more colourful, for those wanting pieces that stand out in the crowd. Shelley’s inspiration was the ancient Etruscan jewellery items, which date back to over 2500 years ago.
“I have always been fascinated that even in ancient times, adornment and jewellery were such a priority and big part of their life and culture. I am in awe of the intricate jewels that were made with the most basic of tools. I love the use of stones in different colours as embellishment and have included lots of gemstones and colour in the Goddess range. I have also mimicked some of their techniques such as granulation, but I am very pleased to have the tools I have!”
Shelley’s great love is creating extraordinary, once-off commissions for clients while also being wildly passionate about transforming outdated pieces into something timeless. Shelley offers her clients exceptional, ageless and magnificent pieces of hand-crafted jewellery for all special occasions.
Shelley’s other ranges include Floral, a delicate and feminine collection, attracting the young and young-at-heart. The Coco collection is sophisticated and punctuated with glorious gold and gemstone pieces.
Shelley began her career in jewellery design and manufacture after completing her diploma in jewellery design, manufacture and silver-smithing at the Richmond College in London and at the University of Technology in Cape Town.
