Overview
Well what can I say except I absolutely love photographing weddings - I really couldnt ask for a better job. Being in this industry I get to meet so many interesting people and get to see so many beautiful places.
I find it amazing how every wedding is different and unique, as is every bride and groom, and being a wedding photographer I get to experience and capture images of all the excitement and emotions of your special day.
I am based in Cape Town, South Africa, but will go anywhere to photograph a wedding. I started photographing weddings when I was at college and it was from there that I realised that this is my true passion in the photography industry.
I like to have a lot of fun with my couples as I know that being in front of the camera isn't one of the easiest things to do. Being myself and distracting you with "fabulous humour", or acting what may seem a little crazy, I find does the trick in helping you to relax, enjoy your wedding day and allow me to capture those natural, unrehearsed and special moments!
I also believe that couples should meet me before hand as it gives you a chance to get to know me and decide if I'm the one that suits all your needs. The photographer you trust to capture this special day, needs to be someone you feel comfortable with. If you dont feel comfortable with me(or the photographer you choose), its not meant to be. This is one day that you dont want your photos to turn out anything but exactly as you dreamed them to be.

We are thrilled with the excellent experience of dealing with Joanne Markland as the photographer for our wedding. From the very first contact we were instantly friends, and arranging a photographer from overseas was wonderfully trouble free.
We met with Joanne the day before the wedding and didn’t have any set ideas of the type of photographs we wanted. We only gave Joanne a list of family photographs we wanted as she prompted us to think about it beforehand. We left it in Joanne’s more than capable hands to walk around the area and find the spots that she felt were best for the shoot.
And what a result. All our family and friends have commented repeatedly on how fantastic the photographs are. How she captured us and our friends and family so well, and the lovely ideas she had for the photographs. Compliments on how stunning our photographs are have been constant from our friends and family in both SA and the UK.
From the initial emails to the first meeting, from how she handled us all on the day to the wonderful presentation of the photographs and the continued friendship, the whole experience has been superb.
I would certainly recommend Joanne, and her lovely second photographer Roberta Crumplin, to anyone wanting to preserve the wonderful memories of your wedding day. I’d even suggest importing her if you’re not fortunate enough to live in Cape Town.

Our BIG day was on 20 March 2010 on a perfect Summer & Autumn day. We booked out the most beautiful Guesthouse so that all the ladies of the Bridal Party can get dressed there. Between me, my four bridesmaids, the make up artist and two hairstylists – it was almost like a pre wedding party. Jo really had her work cut out for her working with such a lively crowd. She arrived with a BIG smile and she fit in perfectly with the crazy bunch. She was very professional and with her calm and friendly way, she made all of us (and some of us are a bit camera shy) feel comfortable in front of her lens.
We had SOOO much fun taking all the pictures and that just added to the excitement of the day. In the church and at the venue she blended in so well that we almost didn’t even know she was there – BUT she captured all the special moments without us even knowing about it. Looking at her pictures we really do relive all the special moments of our special day from start to finish that she captured in time for us. I’ll recommend including her in your special day to anyone.

Joanne Markland was the photographer for our wedding in Cape Town. Our wedding was held in the month of January so the weather was great. Our reception was held at the Mount Nelson Hotel which provided a beautiful backdrop for photographs. Jo was an excellent photographer who visited our reception venue days before the wedding to look for ideal locations and spots for a variety of photos with beautiful settings to suit each ‘scene’. My personal favourite was a lovely room she found with a black and white floor and a lovely couch – Jo had some really innovative ideas for how to position us and it turned out great!
Jo had so much energy on the day and so many creative ideas and it was a real pleasure working with her (the entire wedding party said the same thing).
Since returning to England I have circulated our photos to many of my friends who all said that they were the best wedding photos they have ever seen – thanks Jo!
