Nicole Richie, daughter of acclaimed singer Lionel Richie, and Joel Madden, vocalist and guitarist for Good Charlotte, finally made their union official on 11 December 2010. The grand affair took place at the estate of Lionel Richie and was limited to close friends and family, as well as a tame elephant, which delighted guests with its antics and is believed to have brought good luck upon the couple.

The couple’s two children, Harlow and Sparrow, were the adorable flowergirl and ring bearer respectively. Richie wore three different designer outfits, all of which she created in collaboration with Marchesa. The official wedding dress was an exquisite ivory gown with long lace sleeves and gorgeous lace detail up to the neck. The skirt was a netted wonder of frills, making Nicole look like a stunning ballerina. The skirt was removed for the reception to reveal a mermaid-shaped gown underneath. One lace sleeve bore the names of the couple in embroidery. Before she left, she changed into a black number with crystal embellishments.

The bridesmaid was Samantha Ronson (the ex-girlfriend of Lindsay Lohan) and the best man was Benji Madden, Joel’s twin. Also in attendance were Gwen Stefani and rock star husband Gavin Rossdale.

After a magnificent feast that included steak tartare, filet mignon and red velvet wedding cake, a scrumptious breakfast was served at 02h00 to keep guests in a party mood. The wedding cake was an over-the-top black, gold and white number with French courtiers replacing the traditional bride and groom cake toppers.
