Wedding Monograms and Words

Giant letters and words spelt out in wood, wire or metal are gorgeous. They suit whimsical, funky, retro or vintage styles of weddings and can be used to convey messages without, literally, spelling everything out. If you are sticking to monograms, or letters, you will likely choose your initials and, possibly, an ampersand (the symbol “&”) between them. If you opt for words, choose words that communicate the mood and feel of the day (e.g. love, family, fun, passion, hope, home, and so on).

Some ideas include:

  • Make letters or words out of broad pieces of wood and get your guests to write personal messages on these. This makes a fabulous keepsake.
  • Get your bridesmaids to carry words, such as “love”, “happiness” and “family” down the aisle. They can perhaps hold them by ribbons in the colour(s) of your wedding theme.
  • In keeping with your theme, use Scrabble letter blocks as innovative cufflinks or earrings.
  • Get letters made from flowers or greenery for a gorgeous twist.
  • Expert topiary artists can make letters out of trees and bushes. These will definitely impress your wedding guests.
  • Make letters out of rose petals and lace the aisle with these.
  • Use the initials and ampersand between them in your photographs as fun props.
