Let’s Braai! { SA Food }

Nothing quite as proudly South African as a good old braai! A braai is traditionally characterised by the sharing of food, drinks and conversation with your family and friends. This description can apply to your wedding as well and will, therefore, be a perfect theme if you want an intimate and relaxed celebration.

The best food serving style for this theme will be a buffet. The ideal is to have three tables where the first will have all your meats, the second your salads and the third will have those little side dishes that a braai simply cannot be without – corn on the cob, potatoes roasted in foil and roosterkoeke.

Wood must play an important part of this theme – because braai wood, obviously. Set up big stumps for guests to sit on outside, have slabs of roughly cut wood as base plates and/or use variety sizes of small stumps to create different levels for your table centrepieces.

Keep the atmosphere relaxed and homelike. A braai is a casual get together so there’s really no need to have delicately detailed decor or glass chandeliers dangling from the ceiling. It simply will not fit. This is one of those rare occasions where you don’t want guests to focus on the theme, but rather focus on the people around them.
